Piping, as per the industry, is defined as a conglomeration of pipes used to transport fluids from one point to another, where the pipes are usually made of steel, aluminum, fiberglass etc.
The segment of engineering that studies the discipline of piping design along with the efficient transport of fluids is known as piping engineering. It is different form Piping Design which focuses on the specifying of physical piping layouts within a plant or a commercial building. Piping engineering is further sub-divided into three sub-fields, namely, Piping Material, Piping Design and Stress Analysis. Piping Material deals with the understanding of the study of the materials used for designing a pipe layout in a certain environment. Stress analysis evaluates the mechanical behaviour of the pipe under various load conditions.
